    Position Title: Field Safety Technician

    Position Location: West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and surrounding project locations (travel required)

    Primary Role:

    Kanawha Stone Company is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Field Safety Technician to support our heavy civil construction operations. This position works directly with project management, superintendents, and field crews to promote a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company and customer policies, and help prevent injuries through coaching, training, and field engagement.

    The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, interacting with construction crews, and making a positive impact on workplace safety.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Conduct daily and weekly jobsite safety inspections and audits.
    • Assist with implementation and enforcement of company safety policies and procedures.
    • Observe work activities and provide coaching on safe work practices.
    • Perform and document safety observations, inspections, and corrective actions.
    • Assist with accident, incident, and near-miss investigations.
    • Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Pre-Task Plans for accuracy and effectiveness.
    • Identify hazards and work with project teams to develop corrective actions.
    • Deliver toolbox talks and assist with employee safety training.
    • Maintain safety records, inspection reports, and documentation using company software.
    • Verify compliance with OSHA, MSHA (when applicable), DOT, and company safety requirements.
    • Assist with equipment inspections and PPE compliance.
    • Participate in project safety meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Travel between multiple construction projects as required.
    • Serve as a positive example of the company’s commitment to safety and professionalism.

    Required Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to travel throughout assigned project areas.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, tablets, smartphones).
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Ability to walk uneven terrain and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1–3 years of construction safety experience.
    • Experience in heavy civil construction, highway, utility, bridge, or site development.
    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
    • OSHA 510-Hour Construction Certification (or ability to obtain)
    • Knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
    • Experience conducting safety inspections and incident investigations.
    • First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
    • CHST, STSC, ASP, or similar professional safety certification is a plus.
