Role: Entry Level Construction Estimator

Location: Poca, WV / Salem, VA / Elkins, WV

Kanawha Stone Company is seeking an entry-level Estimator to join its team.  Kanawha Stone Company has offices near Charleston, WV, Roanoke, VA and Elkins, WV.  The position will estimate private projects in WV, VA, PA, OH, KY, NC, MD & TN.  The position will estimate public works projects in WV, VA, OH, & KY. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing and coordinating full estimates on detailed and complex projects as required by client’s documents; provides complete conceptual and total bid price.

Job Duties Include:

• Develop scope of work, qualifications and exclusions for cost estimating of proposed project;
• Develop conceptual and progress budgets, and final cost estimates;
• Prepare material takeoffs on complex projects, drawings, and plans
• Review contractual documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and scope changes;
• Prepare and summarize task and subtask estimates
• Prepare rate and unit cost determinations
• Assigns material costs and staffing costs to bids;
• Writes subcontracts purchase orders and associated scopes of work for all purchased trades and items;

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Attention to detail
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products
• Client interface and relationship building skills

Desired Applicable Experience:

• Knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid
• Thorough knowledge of estimating processes, material and building system costs, and labor productivity evaluation techniques.
• Strong ability to conceptualize project construction requirements
• Knowledge of federal, state and local construction regulations

Education/Experience:

• 3-5 years of heavy highway construction field experience
