Kanawha Stone Company completed construction services for a large bridge replacement project in Page County, VA. The project was performed for the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District. Work consisted of two bridge replacements at Compton Creek (568 foot-4 span) and over Norfolk Southern rail line (150 foot-simple span), paving and roadway alignment for 2.1 miles of Route 340. Typical highway construction activities such as clearing, surveying, and erosion and settlement control were part of the contract as well. Kanawha Stone Company moved nearly 850,000 CY of excavation and grading in tough karst geology, performing its own drilling and blasting. The project was completed on time and under budget.
