Kanawha Stone Company was responsible for the construction of a new 130-acre retail development located adjacent to the Star City exit off of I-79 near Morgantown, WV. The project consisted of clearing and grubbing of 160 acres of an abandoned mine site, excavation of a total of 5,184,000 cubic yards of rock and soil, drilling and grouting of 2 mine voids, placement of a fill atop an abandoned mine slurry impoundment, 2 steep side hill fills, a mile of new 4-lane access road, a substantial Erosion and Sediment Control system with sediment and detention ponds, installation of 69,000 linear feet of sewer, water, and electrical utilities, traffic control and signalization, grading of all building pads and parking areas, asphaltic pavement, and pavement markings.
